The MLC staff personnally knows every family which makes it easier to follow each student. At any moment during his/her stay, if the student is not satisfied with the family he/she will be able to change family free of charge.

In addition to providing additional practice in speaking French, living with a Guadeloupian family gives students the opportunity to discover various aspects of daily life, including, of course, the delicious flavour of Creole cuisine.

We have a network of more than thirty families, many of  them have been hosting students since the school  first opened. A "family" may refer to two parents with children (who may range  in age from infant to adult), a single parent with children, a childress

couple or a single person (for example, a widow).   Our families live within a radius of seven kilometres from the school. Depending on the location and distance, the trip to school may be by public transport, bicycle, car or on foot. Because the city of Sainte-Anne has no internal  public-transport system, students can expect to walk short distances.

Though the Creole language is often spoken with close friends, families naturally speak French with students.

Three Homestay options  are available :

Homestay 1 :

The student has a room in the family home. This room generally has a fan, only few families have air-conditioning. The host will supply, change and wash bed linen and bath towels every week. Facilities are available for students to do their own laundry. Most families prefer that students bring their own towels.  Half board with breakfast and dinner is included.

Homestay 2 :

The student shares time with the family (half board) and the privacy of a studio apartment with its own separate entrance and bathroom, contiguous to the family home. The host will supply, change and wash bed linen and bath towels every week. Facilities are available for students to do their own laundry. Most families prefer that students bring their own towels.

Bed & Breakfast : the student has a room in the  family home with only breakfast.

  • Each room is individually furnished. It is possible for two students travelling together to share a room, but only a limited number of families offer this option.
  •  Normally,  two  students  who speak the  same mother tongue  will not be placed in the  same family, but we can't always avoid exceptions to this rule during the months when school attendance is highest (November, January and February).
